TIG project

Lately my grade eight class has been involved with a major project concerning with TIG and the ten understandings. We're also known as the pilot class of TIG. Our project now is to be in groups of threes and each group is assigned with one of the understandings. WE are then to research on that topic nad make a short film on it and tryt o convince people why it's a topic worth to be concerning about. We've been making brochures, artwork, logos, fact sheets, business cards, fimlimg and much more. My group and I's topic is poverty, when people have the lack of survival necessities. Today a few of the TIG members are also coming to our school to talk to us further about this project. Ben (a tig member) is skillful with computers so he'd be teaching us how to use flash, movie maker, photoshop, and micro media (sorry not sure how to spell it). These members have been visited us every one-two weeks and they've gaved great suggestions to enhance our project progress. We're staying in the computer lab all day and i hope by the end of the day we'd be educated enough about these programs to improve our documentry films and have good special effects.

Stereotypes

This is an update on stereotyping; it’s something that occurs frequently with everybody. A stereotype is a certain belief people have towards a topic that may not be true, yet everyone thinks it is. Stereotyping about people is usually based on appearances, race, background, and gender. Often people are judged by these reasons. A common stereotype would be brown people are more aggressive, rude, stronger, and usually apart gangs. Why do people think this way? I don't understand why people of a different skin colour would be thought of a different way then everyone else. It's difficult to not be stereotypical because everyone is influenced by certain particular beliefs at a young age, usually by their parents. The popular stereotypes have become so common in our daily lives that we aren't even aware when we're stereotyping. Although I admit am stereotypical myself, like everyone, I disagree on stereotyping. That's because it's being unfair to others and affecting more people to believe these stereotypes. No one appreciates to have a stereotype against them or their race. I am stereotypical because I often trust the media when they don't consistently provide the truth. I am also stereotypical because i have my convictions against people around me, whether it's because of rumours or how I judge people. My beliefs may be true or false but I continue to have beliefs against particular people. So far I’ve talked about stereotypes against people, which is a huge one but there are also other stereotypes on other topics not relating with people such as “all candy is bad.” “All drugs are harmful.” These aren’t necessarily true either, but only what adults try to convey to youth. Particular drugs can be harmful but not all, such as medicine can aid you when you’re ill. Eating too much candy is fattening and may be unhealthy but doesn’t mean you are restricted to eat it at all because eating candy once in a while isn’t harmful. There would always be stereotypes though, because everyone has their own beliefs and they tend to spread them as well. Stereotypes are different from place to place because for people in another area and haven’t been to another certain place would start to make assumptions about the people along with the place itself. I think this wrong though, to assume about something you don’t know about, which is another reason why stereotyping is wrong. I personally don’t think people should judge anyone or anything without making sure their statement is true. Stereotypes could start conflicts between people especially if it involves racism, so why be stereotypical? What good can come out of stereotyping? I comprehend that it’s difficult not be stereotypical but if everyone thought about their judgments towards a topic before spreading it then they might realize they’re stereotyping about something that may be fake. If you’re stereotyping about a person I think you no right to talk about how you think that person’s personality is by physical traits unless you’ve tried being the person yourself or got to known them. Overall I believe everyone deserves a chance to not be stereotyped about. I know it’ll be impossible for everyone to not be stereotypical but if everyone passed the message about the effects of stereotyping it could create an impact on the way people think and they’d think twice before stereotyping.

Second Update

Recently besides the large amount of tig projects our class has been working on we've been also concentrating on a economic project. We're in partners and is given a certain budget...with that budget we are expected to furnish a condominium. We were repquired to bring flyers and search through them to get an idea of the cost of furnitures. On monday dec.15 our class would be going on a trip to a mall. We would be purchasing furnitures there with our partners (pretend shopping) the trip would last the whole day and i'm looking forward to it.

Interesting Updates

hey my name is Sally...currently i'm in grade eight and working on projects associating with tig. I'm intrigued by the new tab "understanding"...i found the flashes quite appealing and a personal issue i enjoy reading about is poverty, children and youth and the media. Recently i have also visited the discussion boards and read various articles within the zine.
